Litner + Deganian, P.C., an Atlanta, GA personal injury law firm, recently launched their 2018 scholarship program to help the next generation of college students realize their educational and professional goals. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to the winner of a contest to create an educational infographic on the dangers of distracted driving.
“Education beyond high school can be incredibly expensive, even with financial aid. We want to make it easier for students to achieve their full potential,” said Steve Litner, a founding partner at Litner + Deganian.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,444 lives in 2015, the most recent year on record, and injured 391,000. Teens made up the highest proportion of distracted driving crashes. Litner + Deganian’s experience representing the victims of car, truck, and motorcycle accidents involving distracted drivers has made them acutely aware of the lack of education in this area.
“We’ve worked with so many clients who’ve been injured by distracted drivers,” said Litner. “One person’s decision to send a text, check social media, or shift focus away from the road for a moment can change another person’s life. We want to help the public—and especially teens—understand that it’s never worth it.”
Contest participants will create infographics using data from the government, private agencies, or nonprofit organizations. Litner + Deganian attorneys will review the submissions, determining the winner based on the creativity of the design, the quality of sources, and the applicant’s potential for academic success.
Litner + Deganian plans to use the winning infographic to help educate the public about the dangers of distracted driving. The contest is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are attending or plan to attend an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall 2018 semester.
